The interview with Saeid Ghasemi about making "Form" short movie, He tell us about the details. Here's the questions:
What was your motivation for making the film?
I wanted to tell a new narrative of immigrants’ life in Iran, to tell about their challenges, needs that are the most basic.
And now they have to face these needs in a society with lot of taboos especially gender restrictions.
How did the idea of the film come to you?
When I saw a girl in a man labor dress in subway and a boy dress as a girl in a crossway washing car shields.
What is your main goal of filmmaking in Iran?
Cinema as an entertaining media has the power to project human emotions and concerns in the best way possible.
An effective tool that enables Iranian filmmakers to image their fears and problems in the society in order to get fixed.
How concerned is the subject of the movie and why did you choose this one?
Immigration is an important act, especially in middle east, most people that immigrate is because their lives is in danger, but unfortunately now days we do not see needed attention in the way of UN law orders it for immigrant that flaw their home country, especially illegal immigrants.
How did you come to these cast and crew and what are your criteria for selection?
I wanted to cast a full Afghan family, but for some reasons it was hard to find professional actors and that made pre-production too take more time to finish, but in the end I was able to find some actors and non-actors to work with.
What were the Problems with the film production?
Location scouting, productions expenses off the roof and low budget, also out-date gear with the dirt sitting on the sensor of the camera first day of production was delayed for 8 hours, so we had to work for 24 hours on the next day without break.
Tell us about the positive points and good memories in making, producing, writing the script, finding the crew or any other subject that can inspire the filmmakers?
With all problems in the way of an independent filmmaker, the passionate of making films in everybody in the industry is the real power to defeat challenges.
A filmmaker with believing in himself and gods help can overcome hard circumstances and deliver what he/she has in mind in the best way possible.
Tell us about the film funding and the challenges?
I worked as First AD in many cinema projects, so I had little saving for my first project but due to economic situation and high expenses it was not enough, and my timeline was out dated for any Pitching session.
In the end I had to sell some personal properties to make the budget
What are your expectations of your movie?
I hope “Form” could be understood, be felt, I hope the story be able to touch people hearts.
Get selected in festivals and win awards are any filmmaker proud.
Each project is like a child of a filmmaker and every filmmaker in a dream of watching his child to be the best.
Anything else you want to talk about?
I hope independent filmmaking gets more support and attention in Iran and the world.
Low budgets, self-taste and relations out of professionalize, would not shut a person with his/her talent.
